Start Em’ Week 1 2014
Week 1 always seems to be one of the trickiest weeks to come up with a confident lineup. You ask yourself, “Will his preseason performance (good or bad) carry over to the regular season,” “How will these off season and preseason injuries affect playing.” With that being said, all of your studs should be healthy and ready to go; but there are many more decisions to make. These lists will help you narrow down any doubt you had! Note: No one is interested in the “stud” must starts, so I will not include those unless there is good reason.
Must Start of the Week:
Blair Walsh K MIN – This will probably be the only week I recommend a kicker as the must start of the week. I have seen him as a free agent in many leagues, and am begging you to pick him up! This is not a season long commitment, especially with guys out there such as Nate Freese and Cody Parkey getting the starting duties, along with many other veterans. The Vikings face off against the Rams in the season opener, and boy this one should be an interesting match up! With arguably both Quarterback situations in shambles, above average defenses, and a few elite playmaker’s on each team; we should see a lot of midfield action which will lead to many field goals by each team. (note: Rams normally do not give up a lot of points to opposing K, this week should prove different)
3 FG, 2 XP will be the minimum expected by Walsh.
Nick Foles- Jacksonville…need I say more? (note: Jax D does look improved, but I wouldn’t bet on them just yet)
Jay Cutler- I like Cutler A LOT this year, there is not a better group of skill players in the league! He will have many options and shouldn’t have any issue against Bills D.
Colin Kaepernick- Had a shaky preseason to say the least, but will be ready to get things going week 1. Dallas should let him run and throw all over them! Big Game!
Peyton Manning- Obvious I know, but this match up should be very helpful to get Manning going early! Look for a 3td, 400yd performance!
Frank Gore- Odds are this could be one of Gore’s last weeks as the go-to back. Carlos Hyde looks amazing and is looking to increase workload. Get Gore on the field while you can!
Knowshon Moreno- Going out on a limb for this one. I believe he will eventually take over full duties, but for now will be a solid contributor. Must start only as a flex!
Maurice Jones Drew- Another reach here, but a confident one! MJD seems to be on the prowl to get back into top form, and he may be there! With a rookie QB, he should be leaned on heavily to provide run support! Must start in flex position.
Emmanuel Sanders- Coming off a monster game in the preseason, Sanders looks to continue his success. With Manning throwing at least 3 TD’s this week, look for Sanders to snag 1 and roughly 80 yards.
Reggie Wayne- Should be back healthy and ready to contribute. With two pass happy teams, Wayne will surely get his!
Brandin Cooks- Great match up against the Falcons! Saints will be anxious to get him into the action, should have a big game!
Eagles, Steelers, Bears
